Our U18.5 team made the trip to Tipp Town on Saturday night to take on Clanwilliam under the lights.
What looked like a great fixture on paper certainly didn’t disappoint, with both teams serving up a fantastic game of rugby.
Clonmel conceded immediately from the kick-off, but showed great character to respond with two well-worked tries. Clanwilliam came back strongly and, under pressure just before half-time, Clonmel conceded again, leaving the score 14–12 to Clanwilliam at the break.
Around 15 minutes into the second half, Clan had extended their lead to 35–19. A lesser team might have faded away at that stage, but not these boys!
The Green Machine finally fired into life, and what followed was an incredible comeback. Clonmel scored four unanswered tries to turn the game around and eventually ran out 43–35 winners.
A massive performance from this bunch of Clonmel players. The character, determination and belief they showed were outstanding.
Well done to all the players and coaches involved.
